| Details: On May 22, 2006 ACT will convene 1000 community residents to Stand Together For Youth. At this convening, parents, youth and community residents will ask elected officials and school board representatives to make commits to support youth and families in preventing youth violence. ACT will be challenging elected leaders and the community to help find a mentor for every youth who needs by asking them to create a community campaign to recruit mentors who can be directed to existing mentoring programs. They are also asking that the city, district and business community create several hundred summer internships for youth, and provide support to youth and families who have school attendance issues.
We want to invite your organization to participate in this call to action. Mentoring programs who attend will be asked to stand to be recognized and introduced to the full group of attendees. Sign up sheets for individuals who want to be mentors will be circulated and ACT will work to link these volunteers to community mentoring programs. From the meeting we hope to get a commitment to launch an ongoing community wide mentor recruitment campaign.
